5 cricketers who have played most IPL seasons but are yet to play for India
The IPL has been an excellent platform for cricketers to present a strong case for themselves in the national squad. However, some unfortunate players have not got that opportunity yet.
There have been multiple reasons for that. The primary reason is the availability of that specific type of player in the squad. India didn’t need keepers, which is why players like Goswami couldn’t get a chance to play for the country. In this article, we will talk about 5 such players who didn’t get to play for India.
5. Suryakumar Yadav (9 seasons)
Suryakumar was purchased by MI in the 2012 season, although he did not get a game. He has represented KKR and Mumbai Indians in IPL. He is an attacking middle-order batsman who has won many games for both teams. He strikes at over 130 from more than 50 games. His underrated contributions could work well for India in the t20i format. Rather he has been around playing for India A and is likely to get a chance soon.
4. Manan Vohra (8 seasons)
Vohra has played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kings XI Punjab. He was first purchased by Kings XI Punjab in the 2013 edition. He hasn’t played to the best of his abilities. With over 1000 runs in nearly 50 games at a strike rate of above 130, he hasn’t exactly had the impact he would have wanted as an opener.
3. Shreyas Gopal (6 seasons)
Gopal was drafted into the squad by Mumbai Indians in the 2014 edition, although he did not get enough opportunities in the star-studded MI lineup. He first raised eyeballs in the 2018 season when he was picked by the Royals. He has been an excellent bowler and a decent lower-order batsman for the Rajasthan team. Having picked up the wickets of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers consistently, he would be looking to make a strong case for the national side.
2. Iqbal Abdullah (10 seasons)
Abdullah has been around in the domestic scene for a long time now. He was the emerging player in the 2011 season. He is also fondly remembered by RCB fans for his crucial partnership with AB de Villiers in the 2016 semi-finals. He is an asset on the field, however, it is unlikely that he will get a chance to represent the national side.
1. Shreevats Goswami (9 seasons)
Goswami was purchased by the Bangalore side after he had a good U-19 WC season. He didn’t, however, get enough chances to represent the star-studded RCB lineup which had wicket-keepers of the likes of Mark Boucher. He also represented the Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals. He is currently playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad and would be looking to get a few games to prove his worth.
