A ton of victories: First teams to complete 100 wins in each format

Test cricket is the oldest and longest format of cricket, which first started in 1877. Later on, the first ODI match was played between Australia and England in the year 1971. It was initially a 60-over format but later got changed to a 50-over format which still persists. The shortest format i.e T20I kicked off in 2005, with the first contest played between New Zealand and Australia. Let’s take a look at the teams who first completed 100 wins in different formats.

Tests: England, 1939

England were the first team to complete 100 wins in Test cricket. They achieved this feat in 1939 after playing a total of 243 matches. Later on, Australia too achieved this milestone in 1951. Currently, a total of seven teams have won over 100 Test matches. Australia with 394 wins is the most successful team in the Test format. Indian team have won 160 matches out of 548 they have played till now. England holds the record for playing most matches (1032) in the longest format.

ODIs: West Indies, 1987

West Indies team which dominated world cricket from the 1970s to mid-1990s was the first team to complete 100 wins in ODI cricket. West Indies were the first team to complete 100 wins in One Day Internationals. They reached this milestone in the year 1987. The Caribbean team won the ODI World Cups of 1975 and 1979. Currently, Australia holds the record for winning most matches (579) in ODI format. Indian team is in the second spot with 514 wins. Among the current teams, ten teams have won over 100 ODIs.

T20Is : Pakistan, 2021

Pakistan recently became the first-ever team to complete 100 wins in the T20I format. They defeated South Africa in a three-match series by 2-1 to achieve this feat. Pakistan have played a total of 163 matches in the 20-over format, of which they have won 100 and lost 59. Pakistan is also the only Team to complete 100 wins in all three formats. Indian team with 85 wins in T20Is is currently at the second spot.
