IPL 2020: CSK vs DC Review – Clinical Delhi clinch 2nd consecutive win

Delhi

It was one of those games for the Chennai Super Kings where they looked completely dull and never felt like they were looking for a win. Match 7 of the IPL saw the Delhi Capitals dominating the three-time champions and one has to credit them for executing their plans well. It all started with Prithvi Shaw attacking the CSK bowlers, especially the spinners.

His 43-ball 64 laid the foundation for the batsmen to come. Although it wasn’t an expected finish for them, the 94-run opening stand was enough for the Capitals to reach 175/3 in their 20 overs. In response, CSK never looked like gunning the total down with only Faf du Plessis batting well yet again. But lack of intent from the top-order batsmen led to them leaving too many runs to get in the end. The likes of Amit Mishra, Axar Patel and the pacers bowled well for Delhi to hand them the game by 44 runs.

Turning Points

Opening partnership for Delhi: CSK missed a chance to get Shaw out on the second delivery of the match and the talented batsman made them pay heavily. His partner Shikhar Dhawan played second fiddle to him nicely. The duo played smartly, scoring only 36 runs in their six overs and then attacked the spin duo of Piyush Chawla and Ravindra Jadeja which stunned CSK. The 94-run opening stand laid the platform for the Capitals and it turned out to be crucial for them in the context of the match.

Delhi

Axar Dismissing Watson:  Shane Watson seemed to be regaining his touch a bit when he smacked a six into the stands. But the trap was set for him and Axar executed it well. Watson went on the backfoot to pull a short delivery but only found deep mid-wicket fielder Shimron Hetmyer. This is where CSK lost all the momentum, if there was any, and never gained it.

Records/Personal Milestones

  • Shane Watson completed 1000 runs for CSK during his 14-run knock
  • Faf du Plessis completed 2000 runs in his IPL career

Way Ahead

After playing three matches in six days, CSK now get a breather for six days and they will be in action on October 2 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Delhi Capitals too will face SRH on September 29 and will be keen on making it a hat-trick of victories.
