IPL 2020: RCB vs MI Review – Sensational RCB clinch thrilling Super Over

RCB

As if the humdinger between the Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab was not enough the other day, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians treated the fans with yet another run-fest, this time in Dubai. After being invited to bat first, Aaron Finch rode his luck to slam a half-century. Virat Kohli failed yet again, but it was the duo of Devdutt Padikkal and AB de Villiers who rose to the occasion to propel RCB to 201/3 in 20 overs.

In response, MI looked down and out with their top three getting out quickly. The game was in the bag for RCB with four overs to go as the opposition needed 80 runs. However, Kieron Pollard and Ishan Kishan were set and what followed was absolute carnage. The duo hit massive sixes to bring the equation down to five runs off 2 balls. Kishan’s wicket fell off the penultimate ball and then Pollard hit a four to tie the game.

The Super Over turned out to be a close contest as well. But Navdeep Saini was the master on the day as he conceded only 7 runs against the likes of Pollard, Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma. Even though Jasprit Bumrah took it till the last ball, RCB got over the line in the end.

Turning Points

RCB batting clicks – After losing the previous game, RCB needed their top-order to click desperately this time. And it did. Finch and Padikkal added 81 runs in nine overs with the former getting out on 52. Padikkal then got going almost immediately scoring his second fifty in three matches. De Villiers didn’t disappoint either as he took care of the death over to plunder 55* off 24 with four fours and as many sixes.

Pollard-Kishan partnership – At 78/4 in the 12th over, Pollard and Kishan came together with the team in deep trouble. While the former took his time to settle at the crease, Kishan kept hitting the odd boundary here and there. The equation was reduced to 90 off the last five overs and then 80 off four. This is when Pollard first decided to go berserk and managed to churn out 49 runs off the two leg-spinners. Kishan got going from the other end to hit sixes off Saini and Isuru Udana. The 119-run partnership only ended in the penultimate delivery of the match which could’ve been a winning shot as well.
