IPL 2021: Three expensive players who have disappointed thus far

So, we are almost 2 weeks into the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) sides are looking menacing and are currently occupying the top 2 positions in the points table. On the other hand, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) are languishing at the last place in the points table.

And, there have been a few players who went for huge sums in the 2021 IPL auctions but have disappointed thus far. In this article, let us take a look at 3 players who were bought for huge sums in the 2021 IPL auctions but have turned out to be a disappointment.

3. Tom Curran

The Delhi Capitals spent an amount of INR 5.25 Crores in the 2021 IPL auctions to procure the services of England paceman Tom Curran. But so far, the right arm pacer has put up disappointing performances with the ball in hand. In the 2 matches that he has played in the 2021 IPL edition, Curran has given away 75 runs and has picked up just a solitary wicket.

He also averages 75 with the ball and has given away runs at a high economy rate of 9.78 runs per over this season.

2. Jhye Richardson

Another bowler who has not lived up to his price tag is Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) pacer Jhye Richardson. The pacer has played three matches in the 14th edition of the IPL and has managed to scalp only three wickets. In short, the paceman has experienced a disastrous IPL.

In these three matches, Richardson has given away runs at an economy rate of 10.64 runs per over and averages close to 40. Well, if you are waiting for the amount, Richardson was bought by the KL Rahul led side for a colossal sum of INR 14 Crores.

1. Riley Meredith

Riley Meredith has also put up a shoddy performance with the ball in the 14th IPL edition. The 24-year-old pacer has picked up just 2 wickets in the 3 matches that he has featured in, and has also been spanked around by the willow wielders. And, his economy rate of 10.50 stands testimony to that. Meredith was pouched by the Punjab Kings (PBKS) side for a sum of INR 8 Crores.
