Former Indian cricketers Dilip Vengsarkar and Pragyan Ojha have been assigned key positions in the Indian Cricketers Association (ICA) after they won the ICA elections concluded on October 29 (Saturday).

Both Ojha and Vengsarkar will now represent the ICA to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Governing Council of the Indian Premier League (IPL) respectively. The three-day E-voting of the association started on October 27 and the results were announced on the Saturday evening.

Vengsarkar won the election one-sided as he beat the outgoing ICA president Ashok Malhotra by a big margin of 172 votes, having got 230 out of 402 polled votes. To note, Vengsarkar was also a member of the 1983 World Cup-winning side.

I am thankful to all the former cricketers for reposing their faith in me: Dilip Vengsarkar

“I am thankful to all the former cricketers for reposing their faith in me. I will strive hard for their welfare and will ensure a close and strong relationship between former players and the BCCI,” Vengsarkar (66), who played 116 Tests, told a cricket news website.

According to the BCCI constitution, the Apex Council needs to have representatives from men and women cricketers. In the women’s department, Shubhangi Dattatraya Kulkarni will be replacing Shantha Rangasawamy in the council.

Speaking about Ojha, the former left-arm spinner has been named as the ICA representative to IPL Governing Council after he beat the former Hyderabad batter, Vijay Mohan Raj, by 162 votes (396-234). “I look forward to the new term with a lot of positives and add more value and do justice to the faith shown by our fraternity,” Ojha told this website.
