Topping 2020: Five highest run-getters in ODI cricket this year

2020 marked to be the 50th calendar year of the One-Day International cricket but the COVID-19 pandemic cut down a lot of interesting series. As a result, only 44 ODI matches have taken place thus far in 2020 which are the fewest in a calendar year since 1992. However, in the limited number of matches possible this year, some of the top batsmen have been successful to pile on big runs.

Here are the top five run-getters in the ODI format in 2020:

5. KL Rahul – 443:

KL Rahul is the only non-Australia player among the top five run-scorers in ODI cricket in 2020. The wicketkeeper-batsman from India scored 443 runs across nine ODI games only at an average of 55.37 and a strike rate of 106.23. Rahul scored a hundred and three fifties while batting outside the top four.  Rahul finished the game with 12 runs more than Virat Kohli in the same matches.

4. David Warner – 465:

David Warner started 2020 with an unbeaten 128 against India during a 10-wicket win of Australia at the Wankhede Stadium. The left-hander featured in 11 more ODI games in the rest of the calendar year but failed to score a ton, however, he has three fifties to his name. In spite of that, Warner averaged 42.27 and finished as the fourth-highest run-getter in the ODI format this year.

3. Marnus Labuschagne – 473:

Marnus Labuschagne extended his dominance in the ODI format in 2020 as he amassed a total of 473 runs across the 13 ODIs he has played. Labuschagne averaged 39.41 with the bat this year having scored a century and three fifties. Labuschagne’s 108-run knock in South Africa was his maiden century in the ODI format.

2. Steve Smith – 568:

Steve Smith played only ten ODIs this year but is 2nd on the list of highest run-scorers of the format in 2020.
