Twitter India reveals most liked tweet and most tweeted sports hashtag of 2020

Kohli

2020 hasn’t been a great year for many due to the COVID-19 outbreak and the lockdown that was enforced for the most part. But social media kept buzzing throughout the year and with only around three weeks left for the year to end, Twitter has released the list of most liked, most retweeted and most quoted tweets in India. Like almost every cricketing record, even here the Indian skipper Virat Kohli is ahead.

On August 27, 2020, the 32-year-old and his wife Anushka Sharma posted an adorable picture of themselves together to announce the most delightful news of their life. In the picture, the Bollywood diva Anushka also showed her baby bump which left the couple’s fans in frenzy.

Both Virat Kohli and Anushka took to their respective official social media handles and posted identical pictures with the same caption that read, “And then, we were three! Arriving Jan 2021.” The tweet got a lot of attention then with the cricketing fraternity flooding social media with congratulatory messages for them.

With the fan base Kohli and Anushka have in their respective professions, it is no surprise that the cricketer’s tweet is the most liked of the year. A whopping 6.23 lakh people had liked the tweet when Twitter India confirmed it to be most liked tweet.

IPL 2020 most tweeted sports hashtag of the year

The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) brought smiles of people’s faces in a rather grim year. No wonder, the viewership was at its peak and even on Twitter, #IPL2020 was the most tweeted sports hashtag of the year in India. Interestingly, even in the second and third position, the hashtags are related to cricket. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) endured their worst IPL seasons as they failed to qualify for the playoffs/knockouts for the first time.

But the support for them was overwhelming and their #whistlepodu came at the second place while #TeamIndia ended at the third place in this aspect. The Indian team resumed international cricket with Australia tour and will soon the two teams will be involved in the four-match Test series.
